WSOP Coverage on ESPN needs work.

September 6, 2007

The coverage this year seems to be similiar to years past, but ESPN should start consulting with poker players to see what information we want to keep track of while watching.

There should be regular estimates of # of players remaining, better chip counts at featured tables, current average chip stack, current leaderboards, time remaining in the level, what the next level’s blinds/antes are, and more featured tables – more hole cams – for example at the end of Day 2 during the WSOP ME Gus Hansen was Read the rest of this entry »

Tom Schneider Busts 4th, Harrington takes it down.

WPT Final Table at the Bike - Legends of Poker

The PROP team would like to congratulate Tom Schneider on his 4th place finish at this year’s Legend’s of Poker WPT tournament hosted by the Bicycle Casino.  He started the day 1st in chips, but was riding a rollercoaster as he was one of the most active players at the table.

We tried to help by giving him a PROP dealer button to ‘calm’ him down.  You should see it on the table on TV as he was playing with it.  It seemed to bring good luck initially, as he was all in with pocket 7s, against chip leader Harrington who called with A/10.  An A/x/7 flop, A turn, blank river gave Tom a Boat and a Double up to about 2mil.  A few rounds later Read the rest of this entry »

It helps to run gooot – Joe Sebok busts on TV Bubble

August 30, 2007

Tom Schneider seems to be at the top of every leaderboard we look at these days…it doesn’t hurt that he is running good at the moment.  Check out this pic from cardplayer highlighting the final hand of Day 4 @ the Legends of Poker in Los Angeles at the Bicycle Casino.

Joe Seboks Final hand @ the Bike

The hand played out like this:

Sebok raised to 120,000 from middle position and was reraised by Schneider out of the small blind. Sebok moved all in, and Schneider called. Sebok tabled pocket queens, and Schneider showed AJ. Sebok retained the lead on the flop when it came 652. However the turn brought a crushing A, and Sebok was drawing to two outs. The river was a brick when it came 10, and Sebok was sent to the rail in seventh place.

Poker Tip of the Day

August 18, 2007

When they check…..you bet!

Yeah yeah, I know this sounds like rocket science to a lot of you, but…This is especially useful in late position.  You’ll find that most games will consist of a majority of relatively straightforward players, who when they check – don’t have much outside of a weak drawing hands.  When they check to you on the turn again – guess what?  – bet again!

I know this seems stupid and trivial, but Read the rest of this entry »

Where’s the love?

August 15, 2007

Matt busted outta the $300 rebuy on Fulltilt tonight – FTOPS V #9 – around 500th out of 1100.

He was sitting at 5k in chips, raised 3xbb on button with AA.  BB (also with about 5k) defends.  5/7/9 flop, two spades, Matt bet 600 into 1000.  BB raised to 2400.  Matt moved in.  River brought a 6 to complete the double gutter, and send him to the rail.

On the lighter side – he did take down the wnypoker.com bodog league night – 1st/12…

Matt busts 323rd in $1k on Full Tilt

August 13, 2007

Never seemed to get anything going in this tourney.  Folded QQ to K/J/8/x board early on, never saw KK or AA, played solid but couldn’t get hands to even gamble with.

After the second break, a table change found Matt @ a monster table, with the chip leader and three very active players all around 15k in chips.  Pokergodzeus was the chip leader @ 35k, moderate70, slytony, and rdcrsn all were playing solid agressive poker w/about 15k.  Read the rest of this entry »

Interesting final hand of tourney

August 7, 2007

Playing a $20 mtt on Bodog, 72 players, heads up at the final table.  I had a 60/40 chip lead but it quickly swung the other way as STOAF88 was running hot.  After about 20 minutes or so this interesting hand came up: Read the rest of this entry »

Sbrugby on a $3 million downswing

July 26, 2007

This guy has taken the online poker world by storm for the past two years or so, and is certainly a feared opponent at the tables…however, Brian Townsend, aka Sbrugby, is currently in a bit of a slump.

After losing $1.8mil @ the Bellagio playing mostly 1k/2k Plo during the WSOP, he has since lost another $1.2m or so online at Fulltilt.  That’s gotta sting.

You can read more about it here.

Man vs. Machine

July 25, 2007

Professional poker players, Phil Laak and Ali Eslami, recently defeated an artificial intelligence program named Polaris in a man v. machine battle.  The margin of victory was slim however, with the ‘humans’ winning two of the four sessions, and tying one.

While the number of hands played are not sufficient to be considered statistically relevant, the results indicate a growing threat amongst the AI community.  Personally, I think playing online could get a little tougher once they figure out these programs, but that is just the conspiracy theorist in me.

Dapo Out – 10 hands into day 4

July 14, 2007

Congrats go out to Dapo on making the money, busting 324th, for approx $40k, his second 2007 WSOP cash.  He found himself quite card dead for two days, and did well to last as long as he did.

dapo-3.jpg

In other news, Matt is pissed he didn’t get a piece of Dmikkal…two weeks prior to main event 1% was going for $120, and now this crazy european is first in chips @ the main event.  Although Read the rest of this entry »

Dapo movin on to day 3

July 11, 2007

Watch out world, this kid can play…

Dapo used fearless agression to triple his day 1 stack, finishing day 2a with 313k. He is in excellent shape moving into day 3 in the top 100 in chips.

The key hand for the day found Dapo, at this time average in chips around 120k, in the cutoff with an agressive well known norwegian behind him on the button. With a flop of 635 and two clubs, the norwegian led out. dapo re-raised allin putting his tourney life on the line with A8 clubs, after agonizing the norwegian called to show two red jacks. turn was a blank, but the river was a club and Dapo stacked the guy. WOW. Exciting…

The guy on his left isn’t too happy he’s about to get stacked…

Dapo in 12th for day 1b

July 8, 2007

Thanks in part to a semi-bluff on the turn that materialized into a st8 flush, Dapo is currently sitting in 12th place going into the final level for day 1b with 110k in chips.
