House of Cards – Radiohead

July 15, 2008

Who can make a music video without using a single camera?  Radiohead.  They’re super sweet and they just released a new music video for ‘House of Cards’ off their In Rainbows Album.

Here’s how some real smart people made the video:

One reason not to play @ Absolute Poker?

October 17, 2007

Absolute Poker is currently in the midst of a PR nightmare, and perhaps a bigger concern for the online poker community in general.

Apparently, there has been evidence of ‘super accounts’ on the site – capable of seeing everyone’s hole cards, ip addresses, names, etc.  These accounts won a lot of money and then proceeded to ‘dump’ it in 200/400 NL games, to a newly created account, that cashed out right away.

You can read more about it on Pocketfives or Two Plus Two poker forums.

It’s a scary thought, and certainly something to be concerned with while playing online.  Thankfully, we’re all addicted and can’t stop playing, so we don’t have to worry too much!  GG me.

Pain = Da Bills

October 8, 2007

wide right

So not only does a franchise manage to lose four straight super bowls in the early 90’s, lose to the Titans in a last second play to kill playoff dreams, and figure a way to lose every other close game in the last seconds – but tonight they found a way to lose after Tony Romo had a 6 turnover day, and was virtually useless.

Bills up by 8, 1:30 to go.  Bills driving and in control, in the red zone. Oops! Interception by the rookie T.Edwards (who looked great all game by the way)…taken 70 yards for almost a touchdown.  Ok….20 secs to go, still up by 8.  Oops, a Dallas touchdown pass…up 2.  Go for two…lob it to T.Owens – no good.  Ok!  Cowboys have to recover the onside kick.  They do.  Now they have to drive 17 yards to get into field goal territory, in 17 secs.  They do.  Now they’re rookie kicker needs to hit a 53 yard game winner on the road….he does!  Wait…the bills called a timeout…he has to try again.  Oh wait, no he makes that one too.

GG Buffalo.  It’s painful, but we’re still fans.

Marc Ecko is Crazy (and Cool)

September 17, 2007

Marc Ecko makes clothes.  He has also made a name for himself with spectacular clutter breaking stunts.  His latest involves the ‘democratization of the barry bonds debate’.

He paid 750k+ for the Hank Aaron Record Breaking Homerun ball, and is now giving you, the people, the voice to decide what to do with it.  Either:

A: Give to Cooperstown and put in the Hall of Fame,

B: Brandish it with an asterisk and then do A.  or

C: Launch it into outer space.

Personally, PROP votes for C.

Annette_15 – Wins WSOPE and £2,000,000!

September 16, 2007

Wow!  Already an online multi-table-tournament (mtt) legend, Annette Obrestad has just proven herself on a global stage, winning the 2007 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event.

This event was a £10k entry, with first place receiving £2m!  That’ll certainly help her online bankroll…

From Poker News – the final hand played out like this:

John Tabatabai has the button. He calls, Obrestad raises to 100,000 and Tabatabai calls. The flop is {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{5-Hearts}. Obrestad bets 250,000, Tabatabai raises to 750,000, Obrestad moves all in and Tabatabai calls. Tabatabai shows {5-Spades}{6-Diamonds} for two pair, but Obrestad has top set with {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}. The turn is the {2-Clubs}, and Tabatabai is drawing dead. The river is the {Q-Hearts}. Jack Effel pauses play to count down the stacks to see if Tabatabai is covered by Obrestad. She does, and Annette Obrestad wins the 2007 WSOPE Main Event, earning £ 1,000,000! John Tabatabai is our runner-up and will take home £ 570,150.

$10 Million Dollar Giveaway

August 24, 2007

Check out a company called Kiva doing something remarkable.

As poker players, we often become desensitized to the value of money.  This story should remind us of the power of a collective group of people rallying behind a cause, with relatively little individual finacial support, can create a huge impact on that cause.

Think about ways in which you can contribute to the causes you are passionate about, as we can all do a little more.

Check out this story about kids who think food tastes better in a McDonald’s wrapper…so if McDonald’s can do this to kids, what can big media companies (CNN, FoxNews, ABC, etc…) do to public opinion of say….politics? religion? morals? whatever…

WSOP Event 3 – Dapo goin deep – sick final hand

June 4, 2007

Yo, congrats goes out to Dapo Fadeyi for making it through over 2000 players in the 3rd event of the 2007 WSOP.  He finished 27th…the win is just around the corner.

Read about his sick final hand on cardplayer:

Paul Evans drew a seat next to Dapo Fadeyi from Denver, Colorado and they soon tangled in the biggest pot of the tournament.  Evans raised to $40,000 from middle position and Fadeyi made the call.  The flop came K97, Evans bet $40,000 and Fadeyi called.  The turn was the 10, Evans bet $100,000 and Fadeyi moved all in for $199,000 more.  Evans tanked for less then a minute then said, “I have pot odds.”  He made the call with AQ and Fadeyi tabled 99.  The river was the 8, giving Evans the nut flush and sending a devastated Fadeyi home.  That put Evans around $900,000, far ahead of the rest of the field.
